When Behind-the-Scenes Magic… Isn’t So Magical

You ever have one of those creative days where everything feels like it’s lining up beautifully—almost a little too beautifully? That was me this week. I set up a behind-the-scenes video clip to capture some festive magic in the studio, soaking in all the holiday vibes, ready to show off a smooth, aesthetic process.

And for a few glorious minutes, it was working.

Like… suspiciously well.

But if you’ve been with TGQ long enough, you know how this story goes.

Just as I start feeling myself, the clay I’m working with decides it wants absolutely nothing to do with the golden finding I was attaching. Apparently, my materials were not vibing with the holiday cheer, because the piece slipped right out in the most dramatic, “oh-no-you-didn’t” kind of way.

Cue the epic fail.

But wait — it gets better.

While I’m scrambling to recover the piece, my hand bumps the camera tripod. The perfectly framed shot? Gone. What my camera DID capture was… a stunning, captivating, edge-of-your-seat view of an empty corner of my tile slab. Truly cinematic 🙃

Moments like these are humbling reminders of what the creative process actually looks like behind the curtain. It’s not all curated feeds, perfect lighting, or flawless transitions. It’s trial and error. It’s patience. It’s readjusting your camera for the tenth time. It’s materials misbehaving when you least expect it. It’s laughing at yourself and trying again.

And honestly? I wouldn’t trade it.

Because these little messes and mishaps are part of what make handmade creations—and TGQ—so special.

Thanks for sipping along with me today.

Here’s to the imperfect, unpredictable, and beautifully human side of creating ✨🫶
